2019 Babes on the Bay Rules
Fly Fishing Division
TOURNAMENT FORMAT – The Babes on the Bay Tournament Fly Fishing Division is a catch, photo, and release (CPR) division only.
METHOD – Anglers may fish with fly tackle only. Only artificial flies may be used for bait. No live, dead and marine products may be use for tipping or scenting.
STRINGER - The team stringer consists of 3 redfish. One of the team’s redfish may be oversize (in excess of 28”). Individuals may also submit one speckled trout for the largest trout division.
REDFISH/TROUT - Redfish: at least 20" and not greater than 28", with the exception of one oversize red that may be entered. Trout: any legal trout 15” or greater.
MEASUREMENT – All fish must be measured and photographed on the tournament supplied measuring stick. This stick will be checked out at the captains meeting and must be returned to tournament headquarters when photo submissions are turned in. All fish must be measured on their side with the head to the left and belly down. The nose must be butted against the board and the tail swept to the center of the board. When measuring speckled trout, the mouth must be closed. All photos must include the object of the day in the photograph. The object of the day will be provided at the Captain’s meeting. All photos must be taken directly overhead of the fish and measuring device and show the entire fish with a clear view of the tail length. Catch must be recorded on the tournament supplied score card and will included species, length of catch and time of catch.
ONE POLE PER ANGLER - You can have more than one rod per angler on the boat, but you cannot fish with more than one at a time.
TEAM – The team may consist of two female anglers. The lady anglers must both be amateurs; they may use a licensed guide or amateur captain. As this has historically been an amateur tournament, no guides will be allowed to fish any Division of the tournament. The team may use a female/male guide or captain if they wish, however that captain/guide may not fish. The captain may only navigate and pole the boat, and may take pictures for submission.
FISHING BOUNDARIES - South of the Victoria Barge Channel on a line to Panther Point and North of the J.F.K. Causeway. Panther Point Lake may be fished. No jetty, surf, dock or pier fishing. Do not sneak South of the J.F.K. Causeway.
ALTERING FISH - The fish submitted for the tournament cannot be altered in any way. Tails cannot be cut, and must be caught on tournament day within the tournament boundaries.
TIME - Fishing begins 30 minutes prior to official sunrise on Saturday. Actual time will be announced on Friday evening at the Captain's meeting. Photo submissions must be turned in to the tournament director no later than 4:00 PM at the tournament stage.
TIES - In the event of a tie, time of photo submission to Weigh Master will determine the winner. Decisions of the Weigh Master are final.
FISHING LICENSE - You must have a valid/current fishing license from Texas Parks and Wildlife to fish in this tournament. Fish this tournament according to the rules enforced by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Citations for not observing these regulations are very expensive. Any team/person receiving a citation during this event will be disqualified.
POLYGRAPH - All contestants agree to take a polygraph test if required by a Babes on the Bay or CCA Board Member or the Babes on the Bay weigh master. The test will be taken at a time and place requested by the Aransas Bay CCA Chapter. Refusal to take the test or failing the test will result in disqualification of the team. The individual taking the test will be decided by the tournament director.
REFUSAL - Tournament Committee reserves the right to refuse application of entry, with or without cause, at its sole discretion. Any applicant refused entry shall be entitled to a refund of their entry fee.
CATASTROPHIC EVENT - An event that affects the normal activities/progression of the tournament. This will be determined by no less than three committee members. It may or may not affect any or all rules.
AWARDS – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place team awards will be awarded to the team with the winning stringer. 1st place awards will be given to the angler with the largest redfish and largest trout. Tie breaker will be the earliest time of photo submission to the Weigh Master.
SIDE POTS - $50 entry into the following pots: redfish stringer, largest redfish, and largest speckled trout. Cash awards will be paid out 60% to 1st place team and 40% to second place team of each division. Tie breaker will be the earliest time of photo submission to the Weigh Master.
TOURNAMENT ENTRY INFORMATION and MISCELLANEOUS
ENTRY FEES - $100.00 per contestant if entry is received by midnight EST, April 15th. After the 15th the fee is $125.00 per contestant. April 30th, midnight EST is the last day to register online. After that you will have to contact Jen via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) to see if there is space for your team to fish. If you register after April 30th, you will not receive the tournament swag bag and contents. Entry fee includes 1 year membership to CCA. If you register, and can't fish and want the swag bag, you must contact us 2 weeks prior to the tournament. You can register online at www.babesonthebay.com.
CAPTAIN’S MEETING - Captain's meeting is on the Friday night kick-off event at 8:00PM CST. It is mandatory that one person from the team be present. Best Team Shirt will be judged Friday night during the Captain’s meeting.
ALCHOLIC BEVERAGES/FOOD - The tournament has a TABC license to serve alcoholic beverages, that makes it illegal for anyone to bring alcoholic beverages on the festival grounds. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Food vendors will be on the grounds Friday and Saturday.
